Liverpool’s attempt to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day has failed. The clubs had reached a preliminary agreement on a fee of at least £35 million, and Guehi was allowed to undergo a medical before completing the deal.

However, the transfer was called off as Crystal Palace refused to sanction it, citing the need for two replacement defenders before letting Guehi leave. Their target, Igor Julio, chose to join West Ham instead. Although Palace signed Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse on the same day, they wanted to secure more options before permitting Guehi’s exit. This incident highlights the complexities and challenges teams face during the transfer window.
